Colorful Origami Crane
Object Details
- Artist
- Ira Blount
- Caption
- This crane features yellow, green, blue, red, and white designs embellished with metallic gold accents. While the crisp lines and careful creases make it impossible to discern the complete picture on the origami paper, the colors and shapes suggest elements of a natural landscape. Viewers are encouraged to consider how this traditional Japanese art form simultaneously obscures components of the flat composition while creating a new, three-dimensional structure.
- After moving to Washington, DC following World War II, Ira Blount mastered dozens of artisanal crafts. His love for crafting, learning, and community engagement would endure over the course of his long life and career.
