- CARVED SITTING BIRD ON A FLAT, RECTANGULAR BASE (CARVED FROM ONE PIECE). EYES & WING DETAILS ARE SCRIMSHAWED IN BROWN, FEET ARE SCRIMSHAWED IN BLACK. BACK EDGE OF BASE HAS 2 GROOVES CUT ONTO SURFACE. EDGE IS ROUGH & JAGGED. HIGHLY POLISHED EXCEPT FOR BOTTOM OF BASE. TWO PARALLEL CRACKS (APPROX. 3 CM LONG) RUN DOWN BREAST OF BIRD. ACCORDING TO APPRAISER'S LIST, THOUGHT TO BE SIBERIAN YUPIK ESKIMO OF ST. LAWRENCE ISLAND. PURCHASED IN BARROW, ALASKA.
