Object Details
- Artist
- Ira Blount
- Caption
- This round basket is decorated with a purple and white beaded design underneath the lip. The reeds vary in hue from natural-colored to mauve, and are woven in a plain weave (also referred to as a tabby weave). The simple form of the basket focuses attention on the decorative beading and matching tones of the dyed reeds.
- After moving to Washington, DC following World War II, Ira Blount mastered dozens of artisanal crafts. His love for crafting, learning, and community engagement would endure over the course of his long life and career.
