- Description
- The Postal Service issued its 29-cent Cole Porter commemorative stamp on June 8, 1991, in Peru, Indiana, where the American composer was born and is buried.
- Cole Porter (1891-1964) was a famous American musical comedy composer and lyricist. He created music for many Broadway plays and films. Among his best-known songs were "Night and Day," "Begin the Beguine," "Let's Do It," "What Is This Thing Called Love," and "Don't Fence Me In."
- The stamps were designed by Jim Sharpe and printed in the photogravure process by the American Bank Note Company. The stamps were issued in panes of fifty.
