25c The Wizard Of Oz single
Object Details
- Description
- Four commemorative stamps honoring classic films from Hollywood's golden era were dedicated on March 23, 1990, in Hollywood as a prelude to the 62nd annual Academy Awards. 1990 marked the 50th anniversary of each film's having received nominations in 1939 for the 1940 Academy Awards.
- Each stamp in the block of four 25-cent stamps resembles a miniature movie poster. The stamps feature Gone with the Wind and two of its stars, Clark Gable and Vivien Leigh as Rhett Butler and Scarlett O'Hara; Beau Geste, whose stars included Gary Cooper; Stagecoach, in which John Wayne played the role of the Ringo Kid; and The Wizard of Oz, whose cast included Judy Garland as Dorothy. Dorothy's dog Toto also is pictured on the stamp.
