150 lire Papal Journey to Guam single
Object Details
- Description
- On October 2, 1984, the Vatican released a series of twelve stamps depicting the journeys of Pope John Paul II (1920-2005) during 1981 and 1982. The 150-lire stamp depicts the pope meeting the people of Guam on February 22, 1981.
- Sketches by Professor Angele Canevari inspired the illustrations. At the bottom of each stamp appear the words POSTE VATICANE as well as the denomination. The date of the papal journey depicted appears along the top of each stamp.
- The stamps, horizontal in format, measure 30 x 25.4 mm and have a perforation of 13 1/4 x 14 1/4. The Italian State Polygraphic Institute and Mint printed the stamps on white chalky paper in multicolored photogravure and recess. The Vatican issued them in sheets of forty.
