Some 28 sculptures ranging from figuration to abstraction by Swedish artists Ulla and Gustav Kraitz are on view. To create in their works a luster and purity found in nature, the artists used kilns based on ancient Chinese models and followed the traditional art of Chinese glazing. Three classic glazes—temmoku (brownish black), celadon, and oxblood—comprise the Kraitzes' primary colors, along with an intense cobalt blue.
Organized by the Smithsonian Traveling Exhibition Service (SITES).
