Chinese Buddhist Sculpture in a New Light

Devotional objects created in China for Buddhist worship possess great visual and spiritual power. In the late 19th century, these objects also began to attract the attention from Western collectors. Soon, some types of Buddhist images were so popular that they spawned the manufacture of forgeries, which were then bought by foreign collectors. This exhibition includes Buddhist sculptures and devotional objects that have not been on exhibit recently and addresses the issues of authenticity and attribution.
